Jan. 2, 2008 – Lieutenant Governor Gregory R. Francis is encouraging Virgin Islanders to ring in the New Year violence free. Francis says he speaks for everyone who wants an end to violent crimes, particularly the gun-related crimes that are affecting out community.
He is hopeful that New Year revelers will put down their guns on New Year's Eve. "This practice of firing guns into the air to celebrate the New Year is one that puts our entire community at risk for injury," Francis says. "It is now a crucial time to put down the guns. There are better ways to celebrate, and we need to try harder to find non-violent ways to resolve our issues."
Lt. Gov. Francis, his wife Cheryl and the employees of the Offices of the Lieutenant Governor wish the Virgin Islands community a Happy New Year.
