Dec. 19, 2007 – The St. Thomas-St. John Library Association (STSJLA) elected a new slate of officers for 2007-2008, and will kick off the New Year with an innovative program. At the annual meeting on Dec. 1, the following executive board members took office: Susan Laura Lugo, president/fundraising chair; Eugenia Sello, vice-president/long-range planning chair; Symra Chinnery, secretary/membership chair; Cynthia Richards, treasurer/finance chair; Rachelle Shells, advisor/programs and services co-chair; Nancy Christie, programs and services co-chair; Maribeth Aguila, nominating chair; Christian Douté, advocacy chair; and Tanisha Mills, public relations chair, according to a press release from STSJLA. The officers will lead the organization in sponsoring a training workshop for librarians and teachers, featuring books by resident authors.
On Jan. 10, a presentation will be given on "Big Trees" by Robert Nicholls and "Coral Reef and Mountain Top" by Toni Thomas and Barry Devine to educators and school librarians (invitation only). The focus will be on how to effectively integrate these texts into current instruction. In addition, STSJLA will continue involvement in established programs, including the annual "Read on the Green" for National Library Week in April.
