Brief: deJongh, Tourism Chief to Meet with Airline Officials

Dec. 17, 2007 — Gov. John deJongh, Jr. departed the territory Monday for a meeting Tuesday with Spirit Airlines officials in Miami, Fla.
Joined by Tourism Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty, de Jongh will discuss the feasibility of Spirit expanding service to St. Croix. Presently, Spirit provides nonstop jet service between St. Thomas and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
In the coming weeks, both deJongh and Nicholson-Doty will be meeting with officials of American Airlines as well to discuss additional jet service to St. Croix.
In deJongh’s absence and in accordance with the Revised Organic Act of 1954, as amended, Lt. Gov. Gregory R. Francis will serve as acting governor. DeJongh returns to the territory Tuesday.
