Dec. 6, 2007 – Maho Bay Art Gallery invites the public to a December Open House from 4:30-8 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 20, next door at the Maho Pavilion Restaurant. The open house will be an excellent time for holiday shopping and for meeting the Maho visiting artists, who are sharing their skills while they stay at the eco-resort this month. The restaurant will be serving Southwest dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m., so visitors can visit the gallery and enjoy dinner as well.
The visiting glass torch artist, Kelly Keegan www.firesignglass.net, comes from Pleasant Hill, California to teach and demonstrate the skill of creating pendants in various patterns from an array of glasses. She will have a collection of her glass pendants for sale as well as an assortment of her silk painted sarongs.
The Art Center also has Zachary Compton, who is visiting from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is an experienced glass blowing artist and studio technician as well as a teacher. He has current exhibits at Hodge Gallery in Pittsburgh and had showings in Reed Gallery, Cincinnati and The Southgate House, Newport, Kentucky. Maho Art of Recycling Center will be selling an assortment of vases, bowls, glasses and art glass created by their full-time hand blown glass artists, Jacob Barron and Gregory Lee. Batik and fabric home décor pieces created by JP Bumby, Maho's textile artist, and handmade paper by Deborah Determan, teacher of papermaking classes at Maho Bay Camps, will be for sale. A wide assortment of ceramic functional art pieces will also be available from the artists at Maho Bay Clay Works.
