Nov. 13, 2007 – The Forum will bring the Puerto Rico Symphony to St. Thomas for the eighth year at 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at Reichhold Center for the Arts.
"We have created a concert that crosses musical boundaries and appeals to a variety of musical tastes," says Roselín Pabón, musical director and conductor of the orchestra.
It will range from the intricate variations of Benjamin Britten's "A Guide to the Orchestra," narrated by Sam Topp, to the melodious composition of Thomian Gylchris Sprauve's "Even So."
Puerto Rican jazz saxophonist Edgar Abraham, together with Carlos Avila on vibraphone and Jose Garcia on counter bass, will bring the world of jazz into the mix with the suite "Catch Me If You Can," written by famous film-music composer John Williams. And for lovers of the classics, the symphony orchestra, under Maestro Pabón, will perform Tchaikovsky's "4th Symphony."
"We felt we could use the popularity of the Puerto Rico Symphony to create a concert with a difference one that will appeal to everyone," says Neil Prior, chairman of the Forum.
Tickets are priced at $75, $25 and $15. They can be purchased at Reichhold Center (693-1559), Dockside Bookshop, Interiors (Ft. Mylner), Home Again (Red Hook) and Island Video (Nisky Center).
