Just for Fun Wins Fourth Straight, Outlasting Mash Up 16-8

Sept. 17, 2007 — Defending champions Just for Fun (JFF) extended their winning streak to four games Sunday after defeating a game Mash Up squad 16-8.
JFF pitcher Mario Ortiz was sailing along with a 7-0 lead and a shutout over the first four innings when Mash Up exploded for eight runs in the fifth to take the lead and put some fear in the champs. Order was restored in the sixth, however, and JFF went on to win the game.
JFF scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a sacrifce fly by Reuben Malloy and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Guido Schjang to take the early lead. After a scoreless second, JFF extend the lead to three in the bottom of the third on an RBI single off the bat of Raymond “Doc” Cintron.
Four more runs in the bottom of the fourth and JFF now led 7-0 after four innings. They scored four runs on a two-run missile over the center-field fence off the bat of Cintron and a two-run bomb high over the left-center-field fence off the bat of pitcher Ortiz.
Mash Up finally showed some signs of life in the top of the fifth when they exploded for eight big runs to take a one-run lead at 8-7. They scored eight runs on a three-run triple by Mario Graham, a two-run double by Pedro Felix and RBI singles by Hector Mercado, Ephrian Rodriguez and Tony Navarro. JFF tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a sac fly by Charles Brow.
After Mash Up failed to score in the top of the sixth, JFF erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the inning and was threatening for more when the game was call because of time constraints. JFF scored its runs on a three-run triple by Ortiz, a three-run homer by Schjang, a bases-loaded walk drawn by Brow and a Mash Up error for a final score of 16-8.
Ortiz picked up the win on the hill for JFF, while Wayne Bell took the loss for Mash Up.
The JFF offensive attack was led by Cintron, 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs; Ortiz, 2 for 4 with five RBIs; Eustace Davis, 3 for 4; and Malloy, 2 for 3 with one RBI. For Mash Up, Graham went 1 for 3 with three RBIs, Felix 1 for 3 with two RBIs and Navarro 2 for 3 with one RBI.
