Sept. 14, 2007 — Led by James Boschulte, the V.I. Kings downed the Dominicanos 16-6 Thursday evening as the Donald O. Senthill modified-pitch softball league continued action on St. Thomas.
The Dominicanos jumped to an early 1-0 lead, but the Kings scored five runs on six hits in their half of the first inning, including a two-run homer from Boschulte. The Kings scored four more runs in the second to take a commanding 9-1 lead.
The Dominicanos scored three runs in the top of the third, include a two-run double by Cash Roberts, to cut the deficit to five and make the score 9-4 Kings.
The Kings responded with three runs of their own at the bottom of the inning. A two-run homer by Roberts at the top of the fifth gave the Dominicanos some life, but the Kings answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth — including back-to-back doubles by Kai Shang and Bobby Thomas, which invoked the mercy rule and ended the game.
In the first game of the evening, the Bravos defeated the Coasters 17-11 in seven innings. Top hitters for the Bravos were D. Cotillo and Jose Rosario, who both went 3 for 4. For the Coasters, top hitters were Dennis Murphy, going 3 for 3, and Julio Cintron, who went 3 for 4.
