April 17, 2007- Steve Simon and The Jazz Islanders will perform at the Sunset Jazz, from 6-8 p.m., on Friday, April 20, in Frederiksted with St. John's jazz vocalist Marty Beechler. The Frederiksted Economic Development Association is presenting Steve Simon and the Jazz Islanders, which is in its seventh year of producing the monthly open-air concerts.
The Friday concert, as always, is a family affair at Fort Frederik Beach Park. For the outdoor concert, those attending are encouraged to take along folding chairs or blankets for seating. FEDA will have its drink concession going, with proceeds going to keep the concerts going, and Hispanos Unidos will be selling food to benefit its community causes.
There's no admission, no cover, no minimum and no other mandatory cost to enjoy the music.
The band includes Steve Simon and four St. Thomas talents pianist/vocalist Sally Smith, saxophonist Joe Ramsay, bass player Cliff Finch and drummer Ryan Diehl, and, for the first time on the Sunset Jazz stage, St. John based vocalist Marty Beechler. Simon is an accomplished jazz clarinetist, whose style has won international acclaim. His last CD, "If Only For One Night," was recorded live with The Toronto City Orchestra.
