Jan. 13, 2009 – Ernie Almonte, chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), will visit the territory to kick off a financial literacy campaign by the Virgin Islands Board of Accountancy in conjunction with the members of the Virgin Islands Society of CPAs.
Financial literacy is of growing concern to the public, as the world struggles to understand the rapidly changing financial conditions. As the AICPA chairman, Almonte is very aware of the nation's current economic conditions and the need to impart financial literacy as we look toward the future.
During his three-day visit, he will travel between the districts. He will make a presentation via videoconference to UVI accounting students on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 15, and take part in a series of meetings that will include visits with Governor John P. deJongh Jr. and his financial team, the VI Society of CPAs leadership and UVI's National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Board.
The public is invited to a special luncheon meeting and presentation featuring the AICPA chairman from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 16, at the Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Beach Resort. The cost of the lunch is $30. Interested persons are asked to RSVP to
[email protected] by Tuesday, Jan. 13.
