Transfer Day Celebration to Be Held at Lawaetz Family Museum

The St. Croix Landmarks Society and the St. Croix Friends of Denmark Society invite the public to the annual Transfer Day Celebration, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, March 31, at the Lawaetz Family Museum in Little La Grange, Frederiksted. The celebration is free to the public.
The 92nd annual celebration will take place on the grounds of the museum. The festivities will include traditional, celebratory customs, such as: performances of the national anthems of Denmark, the Virgin Islands and the United States; the Københavner March and "Hvor Smiler Fager;" the presentation of the Dannebrog (Danish flag); and cultural dance performances. Honored guests and dignitaries giving special greetings at the ceremony will include: Ambassador Torben A. Gettermann, consul general of Denmark in New York; Soren Blak, consul general, St. Thomas; Gregory A. Francis, lieutenant governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands; and Margaret Walton from Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical.
Throughout the ceremony, there will be cultural music and dance performances by the Central High School Jr. ROTC and Santa Cruz Brass Ensemble. Following the ceremony, visitors can participate in a number of activities such as storytelling by Janice Tutein or Transfer Day videos shown continuously. Local food plates will be on sale as well as refreshments.
