June 4, 2009 – A 65-year-old North Carolina woman apparently drowned Wednesday at Honeymoon Beach on St. John. She was identified in a Police Department press release as Linda Padgett.
St. John Deputy Chief Darren Foy said in the press release that police arrived at the scene shortly before noon to find a woman unresponsive on the beach. She was transported to Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center by St. John Rescue. She was pronounced dead at Myrah Keating.
Police said Padgett and her husband were on a tour that stopped at the beach to snorkel. Sometime later the husband returned to the boat and Padgett continued snorkeling. According to witnesses, someone began shouting for help and Padgett’s body was subsequently pulled from the water. There were no visible signs of trauma to the body.
The case will be followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
