June 3, 2009 — The St. Croix school district is hosting a two-day conference on educational "best practices" June 16 and 17 at St. Croix Educational Complex High School.
The conference is a collaboration between the district and the International Center for Leadership in Education, a consulting firm founded in 1991 which specializes in identifying education success stories and sharing them through conferences, providing keynote speakers and consultant services to share the stories.
“The conference will examine model schools from the mainland while showcasing St. Croix’s rapidly improving schools," said Gary Molloy, St. Croix District Superintendent of Schools in an Education Department statement Tuesday. "Additionally, we’ll examine the successful practices and strategies used to improve student achievement and leadership.”
Sessions of interest to K-12 administrators, teachers, parents and business or government leaders are also being offered, according to the statement.
Keynote speaker for the conference will be Raymond J. McNulty, senior vice president of ICLE. McNulty will speak on the need for changes in curriculum, instruction and assessment. Also speaking are: Susan Szachowicz, principal of Brockton High School in Brockton, Mass., Jim Warford, executive director of the Florida Association of School Administrators, and Susan Kovalik, founder of The Center for Effective Learning in Virginia Beach, Va.
Pre-registration for up to three general and concurrent sessions per day is available online until June 10. Space is limited so confirm registration early.
Registration starts at 7:15 a.m. June 16. Sessions will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.
