June 16, 2009 — Twelve freshmen entering the University of the Virgin Islands will receive scholarships ranging in amounts from $2,800 to $60,000 for a total of more than $150,000 to incoming students.
The recipients are Aletia Hodge, Tiana Brown and Kiana Woods of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School; Cara Spencer and Derron Callwood of Seventh Day Adventist School; Kia Griffith, J’Nique Smith, Karina Austin and Brandys Scott of Central High School; Marisha Perkins of Educational Complex; Aniqua Donadelle and Franique Ryan of Charlotte Amalie High School; and Ch’Koia Bryan of Antilles School.
In order to be considered for the scholarships, the students had to have a minimum high school cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 and plan to attend UVI full time. The students were ranked by total SAT or ACT scores for scholarship consideration.
While most of the scholarships are for the 2009-2010 academic year, in order to be eligible for continued assistance, recipients must be enrolled full-time in UVI and maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.0. The recipients of four-year scholarships must maintain a 3.2 CGPA for continued scholarship eligibility.
