The St. Croix Track Cub club (STXTC) competed well in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, at the 12th International Mile, referred to as El Jibarito, on Nov. 8. This event allows the best of Puerto Rico to compete against athletes from other countries. STXTC traveled with 10 athletes and returned with six trophies. There were 245 athletes representing clubs from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Vasquez, St. Croix, and Puerto Rico. The Crucian athletes attending were Yudelka Acevedo, Britney Sage, Jazmine Willock, Rodney Griffin, Malique Smith, Valance Modeste, Krystahl Gordon, Annika Benders, Stefanie Matthew, and Mikaela Smith.
Awards were given to the top 10 athletes in each category. There were six age-categories of both males and females from 7-8 year-olds to 17-18 year-olds. The 7-8 group ran 400 meters, the 9-10 group ran 800m, and the older age groups ran 1 mile. Mikaela Smith ran 2nd in the 7-8 girls, and Valance Modeste was 4th in the 7-8 boys. In the 9-10 girls, Kristahl Gordon was 5th, Annika Benders was 6th,and Stefanie Mattew was 7th. Also, Malique Smith ran 10th in the 11-12 age group.
