The Seaborne Stealers, Anchor Dive, and Softball Inc. opened their 2010 Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League campaign with victories Monday night at the D.C. Canegata Ballpark.
Stealers 12, Speak the Word 4
Seaborne Stealers ace Sam Ramos allowed just four runs and scattered eight hits in pitching the league leaders to a tough 12-4 win against STW. The victory did not come easy though, as STW led 4-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Stealers big bats, silent for most of the contest awoke in that inning, however, erupting for nine runs to seal the deal. Gabriel Jagrup got the loss for STW. It was the Stealers with 12 runs on 14 hits and two errors, while STW finished with four runs on eight hits and three errors. Top batters for the Stealers were Sheldon Turnbull (3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs) and Ronald Schjang (2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs). For STW, Norbert Pickering was 2 for 3 with one RBI, and Sylvester McIntosh was 1 for 1 with a home run and one RBI.
Anchor Dive 14, Dirty Dozen 0
The Anchor Dive squad, looking exceptionally powerful Monday night, blanked the Dirty Dozen 14-0 behind ace Edwin Sankitts’ five-hitter. Jason Roberts got the loss for the Dirty Dozen. Anchor Dive plated 14 runs on 12 hits while committing three errors. Top batters for the winners were Carmelo Torres (4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs) and Juan Burgos (2 for 3 with four RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Jason Helima was 2 for 2, and Jason Roberts was 1 for 1.
Softball Inc 16, Wyatt Heat 8
In Monday’s night cap Softball Inc cooled Wyatt Heat 16-8 in a battle of two of the League’s elite teams. The surging Softball Inc have now beat arguably the league’s best teams, in the Seaborne Stealers and the Heat, this season to stake a claim as one of the favorites to win the championship. It was Softball Inc with 16 runs on 12 hits and three errors, while the Heat finished with eight runs on 11 hits and three errors. The winning pitcher was Bill Harris, while Dexter DeSouza got the loss for the Heat. Top batters for the winners were Angel Guzman (3 for 3 with a home run and five RBIs) and Angel Cruz (2 for 2 with three RBIs). For the Heat, Eric Perez was 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Spencer Hendrickson was 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs.
