Women's Jogger Jam Set for Sunday

0

The 28th annual Women’s Jogger Jam will be run, walked or jogged on Sunday, Feb. 7.
The hugely popular annual race, which raises money for the Family Resource Center, begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Fruit Bowl in Wheatley Center. The two-mile race also ends there, after a course that twice circumnavigates Schneider Regional Medical Center.
The Fruit Bowl has sponsored the event — with support from the St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners (STAR) — for 26 years. The race had no sponsors the first two years.
Prizes are awarded in several categories, including top three finishers in seven different age categories, a team challenge trophy to the group or organization with the most participants, and T-shirts for the first 275 registered finishers.
The Fruit Bowl donates $5 to the Family Resource Center for every female who crosses the finish line, which is almost everybody.
Registration is $3 for youth 18 and under, $6 for adults and $5 for STAR members. Half the entry fee goes to STAR and the other half to the Family Resource Center. Registration on race day is $10 for all categories.
Participants can pre-register at The Fruit Bowl, The Caribbean Surf Company at Havensight Mall and Royal Dane Mall, Red Hook Shopping Center and at the Antilles School Jackson Complex Wellness Center..
All expenses—including trophies, T-shirts, prizes, advertising, banners and the day’s refreshments, which always include ample fresh fruit and drinks,—are covered by The Fruit Bowl.
Speaking Thursday, Fruit Bowl owner Marty Goldberg hailed his vendors. "We have some very generous vendors, who supply cold drinks and more – Coca-Cola, West Indies Co., H &W Enterprises and Dynamic Merchandising," he said.
