Woman Found Shot to Death Thursday Morning

Police on St. Thomas are investigating the shooting death of a woman whose body was found Thursday morning. One person has been detained.

According to a news release from the V.I. Police Department, officers responded to a call of shots fired at about 8:49 a.m. Arriving at the scene – an apartment at the Oswald Harris Court housing community – they found a woman with at least one gunshot wound to her body. She was unresponsive. Emergency Medical Technicians on the scene verified she had no vital signs.

The victim was identified as 25-year-old St. Thomas native Kalelia Vanterpool.

Nathan SidoneSidone Nathan Lake, 27 years of age, also a St. Thomas native was detained at the scene and later arrested. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm with an obliterated serial number after it was determined that the firearm recovered on the scene, a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson, belonged to him. He was also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana after he was found in possession of 18 small bags of what was field tested to be marijuana.

Lake lives in Estate Hidden Valley.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Major Crime, Richard Callwood Command, Special Operations Bureau and the K-9 Unit, along with the Forensic Bureau Officers and Technicians secured and processed the scene.

It was the 13th homicide in the territory since Jan. 1, the eighth on St. Thomas.
