Heat, Speak The Word, and Cartel Tuesday Winners in Bob Owens Playoffs

STW’s Pickering blasts one of his two home runs in his team's upset of Softball Inc. Wyatt Heat, Speak the Word and the Cartel all advanced to the next round of the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League playoffs Tuesday night at D.C. Canegata Ball Park.

Wyatt Heat 10, Warriors 5
In game one on Tuesday Wyatt Heat sent the Warriors into the losing bracket of the double-elimination tournament. It was the Heat with 10 runs on 12 hits and three errors, while the Warriors finished with five runs on nine hits and four errors. The winning pitcher was Dexter Desouza, while Angel Soto got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Steven Rosario (2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs) and DeSouza (1 for 2 with a home run and one RBI). For the Warriors, Khalid Matthews was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs.

Speak the Word 12, Softball Inc 8
Game two was a shocking surprise to many at the ball park as the lowly ranked Speak the Word Ministries upset regular season champions Softball Inc. Speak the Word ace Gabriel Jagrup allowed the powerful Softball Inc squad just nine hits and eight runs, while his offense gave him 12 runs on 15 hits to help pull out the upset victory. Cody St. Pierre got the loss. Top batters for Speak the Word were Norbert Pickering Jr. (2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Jeffrey Clarke (4 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs). Angel Guzman and Tony Cruz were both 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs for Softball Inc.

Cartel 15, Dirty Dozen 8
The final game of the night was an elimination game between the Cartel and the Dirty Dozen, and when the dust cleared it was the Dirty ones who were sent packing until next season. It was the Cartel with 15 runs on 11 hit and four errors, while the Dozen had eight runs on eight hits and three errors. The winning pitcher was James Smith, while Jason Roberts got the loss for the Dirty Dozen. Top batters for the Cartel were Daren Lewis (2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Smith (3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Jeff Elvins and Jason Helima were both 2 for 3 with a home run each.
