As the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League regular season comes to a close, the teams are now jockeying for position. Only two games were scheduled for Monday night, and in game one Anchor Dive surprise Wyatt Heat 22-9, while National Guard Hummers tamed the Warriors, 26-15.
Anchor Dive 22, Wyatt Heat 9
Anchor Dive shocked Wyatt Heat in game one Monday night with a thorough thrashing of one of the league’s most powerful teams. Anchor Dive ace Edwin Sankitts was at his best as he kept the Heat from mounting any big innings. It was Anchor Dive with 22 runs on 20 hits and three errors, while Wyatt Heat finished with nine runs on 11 hits and two errors.
Sankitts got the win on the hill for Anchor Dive, and Kennedy Feist got the loss. Anchor Dive was led offensively by Edwin Rivera (4 for 4 with three RBIs) and Julio Carmona (4 for 4 with two RBIs). For the Heat Michael Schjang was 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and Andre Ponce was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs.
National Guard 26, Warriors 15
The National Guard Hummers outslugged the Warriors 26-15 in game two on Monday to solidify their third-place finish in regular season play. The Hummers finished with 26 runs on 22 hits and four errors, while the Warriors managed 15 runs on 14 hits and two errors. The winning pitcher was Roy Vialet, while Angel Soto got the loss for the Warriors.
Top batters for the Hummers were Edgardo Sanes (4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs) and Kai Schjang (5 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs). For the Warriors, Juan Santana was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, and David Clarke was 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.
