Fourth Annual Student Shakespeare Festival Slated for April 23

0

The Student Shakespeare Festival is a teacher-training project that culminates in 8-10 minute student performances. Teachers from throughout the territory are collaborating with their students to devise, rehearse, and perform a piece of theatre using Shakespearean language while exploring the timelessness of Shakespearean themes. The festival will take place from 9 a.m.to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 23, at Bertha C. Buschulte School’s auditorium.

Hosted by Elgin Gordon (an accomplished actor most recently seen in Pistarckle’s “The Odd Couple”), the goal is to foster a spirit of collaboration and bravery between teachers and students. The festival provides a forum for teachers to spice up their creative tools, inspire themselves and engage their students towards a Shakespearean performance that celebrates and communicates their connection to contemporary themes and the Bard’s legacy.
The festival includes a troupe from Pearl B. Larsen Elementary of St. Croix, Ulla F. Muller Elementary, V.I. Montessori School, International Baccalaureate and Pistarckle Theater. All interested members of the community are invited to attend free of charge.
For more information, call Education Director Larry Bryant of Pistarckle Theater at 775-7877.
This event is sponsored by the Law Enforcement Protection Commission, the Lana Vento Charitable Trust and the V.I. Council on the Arts.
