As of Monday evening, former Sen. Lorraine L. Berry is critically ill at Schneider Regional Medical Center where she was admitted Sunday, suffering with complications from colon cancer.
There were reports over the weekend that the longtime political leader had died. James Francis, her former legislative aide, said Monday that Berry is in critical condition after an almost yearlong battle with the disease.
Her family is with her at the hospital, Francis said.
