Robert S. Mathes, commissioner of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) expresses his profound gratitude to all those who attended and participated in the Dec. 3-9, charrette for the “pilot” application of the Form Based Code District for historic Charlotte Amalie. “The community’s input was critical in formulating a vision and developing a plan for those specific areas in Charlotte Amalie,” said Commissioner Mathes.
“The department also thanks those property owners throughout the territory that allowed access and assisted DPNR staff and our Rutgers University consultants with the field surveys of the 18 zoning districts that were conducted Dec. 4-7, 2010.”
Dover, Kohl & Partners, the planning firm that organized the charrette, will return to the Virgin Islands to present the refined plan as well as the first and second drafts of the code in the spring of 2011, and will conduct a public Code Workshop to gather additional input from the community on the draft provisions.
As we move forward with the revision of the V.I. Zoning and Subdivision Code, and the development of a Form Based Code Provision and a “pilot” application Form Based Code District for Charlotte Amalie, DPNR will need the communities continued involvement and support.
