St. Croix District’s free Credit Recovery Program for public school students in grades seven through 12 will run from Monday, June 27 to Friday, July 29. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, according to a press release from the Office of the St. Croix District Superintendent.
The program gives students the opportunity to improve scores in courses which could help them meet promotion or graduation requirements. It will be delivered through traditional teacher to student methods and via online courses through “Plato.” To be eligible for participation students must have received a minimum grade of 60 in a core area and a referral by a principal or counselor. Also, students with a minimum grade below 60 will be enrolled in the online courses using “Plato.” Courses being offered include: 7- 12 English; Reading, Math, Algebra I, Advanced Algebra, Geometry, Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and U. S. History. Students participating in the Credit Recovery Program will be required to wear their regular school uniforms and adhere to all rules and regulations of the program.
Programs will be held at the following schools: Elena Christian, Arthur Richards and John H. Woodson Junior High Schools, St. Croix Central High School and Educational Complex High School.
The programs are free of charge for the course work of public school students, but insurance fees must be assessed if the child is not covered by the parent’s insurance. Also, adult education students will be assessed the regular $100 per course fee plus the cost of the insurance in order to be included in the credit recovery programs.
The Abramson Bus Company will be providing transportation to the various programs via the same routes utilized during the regular school year.
