Convicted of shooting to death Marvis Chamarro and John “Jack” Diehl in Mandahl Bay two years ago, Neville Potter Jr. was sentenced this week to a double life sentence, plus 15 years, for the crime.

Potter was originally tried for the murders in March, and then again in July after the first case ended in a mistrial. The second trial ended on July 29, with jurors finding Potter guilty of first degree murder, which has a mandatory sentence in the Virgin Islands of life without parole.

During a hearing this week, V.I. Superior Court Judge Brenda J. Hollar ruled that the life sentences would run consecutively.

Potter was also found guilty on 14 other counts: two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of third-degree assault and seven counts of unauthorized use of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence. According to court records, these counts earned Potter another 15 years, which Hollar said will run consecutive to the life sentences.
