Tsunami Warning Sirens to be Tested

1

A siren scheduled to sound periodically through the day Thursday and Friday is no cause for alarm, according to the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency. It’s a test.

VITEMA and its contractor, American Signal Corp, will conduct a territory-wide test of the tsunami siren warning system between 9 and 11 a.m. and 2 and 4 p.m. both days.

"Do not be alarmed by the activation of the system," the agency warned in a news release Thursday morning. "If a real emergency were to occur, the testing of the siren system would cease immediately."

  1. Those living on the Northside above the beautiful Bays and Beaches have yet to hear the sirens. One would think that a warning system would be put in place for the entire island and all it inhabitants.
