St. Thomas police arrested two men this week and charged them with driving under the influence.

Reid H. Zavell, 58, was arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. Thursday. According to a V.I. Police Department news release, Zavell was involved in a car accident on Frenchman’s Bay road and refused to take both field sobriety and breathalyzer tests. Officers said they were kicked and pushed by Zavell when they attempted to restrain him at the scene.

Along with DUI aggravated assault and battery, Zavell was also charged with resisting arrest. His bail was set at $3,500.

In an unrelated incident, police arrested Oliver Kuhnert shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday after he collided into another car on Veteran’s Drive and left the scene of the accident. Officers eventually were able to find Kuhnert, who they said was under the influence of alcohol.

Kuhnert was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and negligent driving. His bail was set at $500.

Both suspects were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
