In charting a course to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to compete effectively in the growing global, digital workplace, teachers and other educational personnel in the St. Croix District will be updating their instructional approach during a Curriculum, Instruction and Technology Integration Conference.
Conference workshops are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24 and Aug. 27-30, each day at the Career Technical Education Center (CTEC). Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The theme for the conference is “Creating Schools in the St. Croix School District that Effectively Integrate Technology to Provide a World-Class Education for All Students.”
Educators are scheduled to participate in the conference as follows:
· Aug. 24 — school and district administrators;
· Aug. 27 — elementary teachers/paraprofessionals and librarians from the following five schools: Claude O. Markoe, Alexander Henderson, Eulalie Rivera, Evelyn Williams, and Pearl B. Larsen;
· Aug. 28 — elementary teachers/paraprofessionals and librarians from Alfredo Andrews, Ricardo Richards, Lew Muckle, Juanita Gardine and Charles H. Emanuel elementary schools.
· Aug. 29 — school psychologists, school social workers and secondary teachers/paraprofessionals and librarians from all secondary schools, including the Alternative Education Program.
· Aug. 30 — counselors, registrars, secretaries and all other support staff members.
Conference objectives are to increase student achievement, improve teacher and leadership effectiveness, and to reinforce and build positive school cultures.
According to Cheryl Willocks, district director of curriculum and instruction, “The school district continues to chart a course towards the molding of 21st century students who are equipped with skills and knowledge that they need to perform proficiently and above while in school and when they enter college and the global competitive workforce.”
Presenters will address various workshop strands and topics to include project-based learning, 21st century skills, digital storytelling and NETS Leadership Academy. The conference will also focus on literacy, mathematic principles and technology tools, best practices using Promethean resources, instructional video, and much more. Participants are encouraged, when possible, to come with their iPads, iPods, iPhones, laptops and other digital devices.
