The 7th annual Dollar fo’ Dollar Culture and History Tour: A Remembrance of the 1892 Coal Workers Strike on St. Thomas will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 29, with a walking tour starting at Emancipation Garden and ending at Market Square.
The free interactive tour is held annually in celebration of the hundreds of 19th century coal laborers and Queen Coziah who led a successful protest in the streets of Charlotte Amalie for better pay. This year marks the 120th anniversary of the historic protest.
The tour is funded in part by the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Other sponsors include Strength to Strength, Benita Martin, KWANZAA365 and Sankofa Saturdays Youth Cultural Education Initiative.
