Two men were arrested on St. Thomas Monday and charged with forgery, the V.I. Police Department said, after they accumulated almost $500 in charges at the Frenchman’s Reef Hotel.
Travis Cullen Becker and James Charles Vanterpool, both 20-year-old men who listed their addresses as Lahania, Hawaii, were arrested about 2 p.m. and charged with identity theft, forgery, grand larceny, obtaining money by false pretenses, acting in an assumed character and aiding and abetting. The men told police they relocated to St. Thomas three days earlier.
Police said Becker and Vanterpool were squatting on the beach by Frenchman’s Reef, and while walking through the hotel they found and used information from guest receipts to obtain services totaling more than $500 at the hotel including food, drinks and spa treatment.
Becker and Vanterpool were placed on $95,000 bail each and remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections.
