Javal Miguel Phillip of St. Thomas was arrested Friday and charged as the shooter in a May 24 drive-by that injured two visitors, the V.I. Police Department said Wednesday.

Phillip was the third suspect arrested in the case, the news release said.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested Phillip about 6 p.m. Friday. He was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, unauthorized possession of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, and aiding and abetting. His bail was set at $250,000 and he was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections.

On May 24 two visitors to St. Thomas were injured when shots were fired from a passing car in Havensight. Two other suspects were arrested on May 31.

Police said their investigation showed that Phillip was a passenger in an SUV when he allegedly shot at the victims. Witnesses said there was a verbal altercation in the parking lot between one of the visitors and a local man, later identified as Ajem Nibbs. Ajem Nibbs was arrested May 31 and Ajahni Brathwaite surrendered to police the same day. Detectives said Braithwaite was driving the SUV while Nibbs and Phillip were passengers in the vehicle.
