The St. Thomas Region’s Super League action came to a sudden end this past Sunday at the UVI Grounds when the players from the Haitian Victory failed to respect the referee’s awarding of a penalty kick to the Positive Vibes with roughly 15 minutes left in the game.
The Victory started the game well with Roody Malbranche scoring to give them an early 1-0 lead. The jubilant Victory fans were soon silenced when the league scoring champion and MVP Amon Bascombe scored a brace, including a bicycle kick, to give the Positive Vibes a 2-1 half-time lead. Neither team had any good scoring opportunities in the second half until a Victory player was adjudged to have committed a foul in the penalty area.
The Haitian Victory players, with some supporters, surrounded the referee making it difficult for him to restart the game. Being unable the regain order, the game officials terminated the match. The Association would have to decide on the outcome.
In the earlier game, the New Vibes brushed aside the Raymix with a 3-0 victory. The New Vibes Brian Charlery scored early in the game giving them a 1-0 half-time lead. The Raymix missed a golden opportunity to tie the game in the first half and hence paid the price. The New Vibes continued their dominance in the second half with Marlon Wilton scoring a brace one from a Junior Laurencin free kick and the other from a Charlery feed.
A victory over the Positive Vibes next Sunday will give the New Vibes an opportunity to defend their Association Club title against the St. Croix’s Super League winner, the Helenites.
