The V.I. Water and Power Authority issued an alert Tuesday to St. Thomas residents of a possible imposter who is approaching homes, falsely identifying himself as a WAPA employee and asking to speak with the residents about lowering their monthly utility bill.
WAPA Executive Director Hugo Hodge Jr. said in a statement that all WAPA employees and contractors are issued photo identification cards and must have them visible when working on behalf of the authority.
“We are concerned that such actions are taking place by unknown individuals seemingly based on WAPA’s operations,” said Hodge. “We want to immediately caution our customers to be aware of unknown persons around their neighborhood and to report any such incident to the proper authorities.”
Hodge said reports should be made to the V.I. Police Department.
