AIRPORTS TO CLOSE AT 5 P.M., FERRIES TO STOP AT 4 P.M.

Airports and ferries in the Virgin Islands will shut down by late Wednesday afternoon as hurricane Jose approaches the territory.
V.I. Port Authority spokeswoman Shirley L. Smith reported Cyril E. King airport on St. Thomas and Henry E. Rohlsen airport on St. Croix will close at 5 p.m.
Alvis Christian of V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency headquarters on St. John said his last information was that the ferries between St. Thomas and St. John would make their last run at 4 p.m.
No one could be reached at Varlack Ventures or Transportation Services, the two companies providing ferry service between the two islands.
The territory's two airports will remain closed until further notice, Smith said.
Cape Air, American Airlines, Delta Airlines suspended service as of early Wednesday. US Air and American Eagle were expected to shut down by 2 p.m.
Smith said the airports will remain closed until the Port Authority determines it's safe to resume operations
Cape Air also has cancelled flights for Thursday. Travelers holding reservations on Delta for Thursday morning were told Delta would not be flying since the airline4 would be unable to get equipment into the territory Wednesday night.
Smith asked the public to keep abreast of the situation by listening to their radios.
