Bajo el Sol Gallery at Mongoose Junction in conjunction with the St. Thomas-St. John Arts Council will present a "Hearts & Flowers Valentine Exhibition" of two- and three- dimensional artwork that will open on Sunday, Feb. 13, with a champagne reception.
Entries must reflect the "hearts and flowers" theme. An artist may enter only one work, and there is a $10 entry fee. Cash prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded on the basis of "people's choice" balloting by those attending the opening reception.
The maximum size for two-dimensional artwork is 12 by 16 inches, framed, with framing mandatory. The maximum for three-dimensional works is 12 by 16 by 16 inches overall.
The exhibition will hang for two weeks. For any piece that sells, the artist will receive 70 percent of the purchase price, with the gallery receiving the balance. The deadline for entry and drop-off is Friday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m.
"This show is meant to be serious fun, and one that opens artists up to being especially creative with their work," Arts Council president Mary Blazine said.
The reception will be from 4 to 7 p.m. The Arts Council will operate a cash bar, from which all proceeds will benefit the not-for-profit, membership-based council. To obtain an entry form or more information, call Blazine at 693-7765 or Bajo El Sol Gallery at 693-7070. Forms can be faxed.
