TOO MANY STUDIES, TOO LITTLE ACTION

Dear Source,
Continuing the discussion of the waste management problem at home, I must comment on the article today (Sept. 7). [Editor's note: To read the full text of the article referred to, click here.]
Addressing the points made by Ms. Nelthropp, I have the following questions/points:
1. If we have had "dozens of studies" over the past years, why did it take so long to come up with a plan?
2. The creation of another independent authority? Sounds like the creation of a secure job for someone or several people who would be accountable to no one.
3. The federal consent decree needs to be complied with immediately. No waiver or extension should be sought. Monies must be found. The health and lives of residents are at stake (to say the least).
4. We really need to get hot with house-to-house collection (eliminates eyesores on corners and isolates violators), as well as recycling-a most important issue for such a small place with no way of disposing of trash cheaply.
5. Fees to close dumps? Who are we kidding here?!
