HEARING SET FOR COMMERCIAL CENTER

June 9, 2001 – St. Thomas residents are invited to give their thoughts on three significant zoning changes next week – one to make way for yet another commercial center in the Tutu-Fort Mylner area, another for a second supermarket at Mandela Circle and a third to allow a bed and breakfast in nearby Estate Havensight.
A public hearing on all three rezoning requests is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the conference room of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources located on the second floor of the Cyril E. King Airport terminal building.
The Harthman family, Arthur E., Edgar A., Albert E., Sammy E. Harthman and Charlotte A. LaBarre, is requesting a change from A1 (Agricultural) to C (commercial) for a 27-acre parcel west of Tutu Park Mall for a commercial development. That also puts it in close proximity to the Fort Mylner and Times Square strip malls, Four Winds Plaza and the newly constructed sprawling PriceSmart store.
Plessen Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a change from C (Commercial) to B-1 (Business District) for a little over two acres of vacant lot at Mandela Circle to allow for a proposed supermarket.
Oliver Deligny has requested a change from Residential low density to Residential medium density for a three-quarter acre at parcel No. 16 in Havensight so he can turn his residence into a bed and breakfast.
