BOATER GUIDELINES IN HURRICANE PREPARATION

0

All boaters in the U.S. Vigin Islands are advised of the procedures to follow in the preparation for tropical storms and hurricanes.
A five day notice will be given to the boaters based on the location of the storm. Entry into a Hurricane Haven will be on a first come, first served basis. Enforcement officers will assist boaters in locating a site for the vessel within the haven.
Boaters will return to regular moorings once the approved news bulletin has been issued.
All anchors will remain in place for the entire hurricane season. Vessels leaving anchors in the haven will use one mooring ball, attached to the anchor marked with the vessel registration number.
Securing vessels to nearby trees is permissible when deemed necessary by the assisting Enforcement officer.
Vessels may not anchor in or obstruct the navigational channel in Brenner Bay, St. Thomas, or Krause Lagoon and Salt River, St. Croix.
After the hurricane season all anchors will be removed at a time announced by the DPNR.
Boaters should not remain on board their vessels during a storm or hurricane. Boaters violating this provision do so at their own risk.
Hurricane Havens are at the following locations:
St. Thomas/Water Island – Benner Bay, Mandahl Pond, Flamingo Bay
St. Croix – Krause Lagoon, Salt River
St. John Hurricae Hole
