SECOND HOMICIDE IN ONE WEEK ON ST. THOMAS

Feb. 8, 2002 – One man is dead and another wounded by gunfire that riddled a house behind the Jala Jala nightclub on lower Kronprindsens Gade about 4 a.m. Friday.
Police sources confirmed that an unidentified individual began shooting into the house, killing one person and wounding another.
The dead person was identified late Friday night as 23-year-old Darien Gumbs His body was found with several gunshot wounds by officers from the Richard Callwood Zone A Command.
The other gunshot victim, Charles Turbe was treated at Roy L. Schneider Hospital Friday morning.
No motive has been established for the shooting.
The death was the second homicide this week on St. Thomas and the third in the territory this year.
Ignatius Charles was killed Tuesday night outside a home in Estate Nazareth.
The first homicide of the year occurred on St. Croix on Jan. 24. The victim, Kirby Charles, was killed by an off-duty police officer after the two fought outside the officer's home in Campo Rico.
As of this time last year, there had been four homicides in the territory, two in each district.
