CABLE PROBLEM CUTS OFF ST. JOHN POWER

Feb. 20, 2002 – The Water and Power Authority was restoring electrical service to St. John Wednesday afternoon after repairing a submarine cable that failed earlier in the day.
"At approximately 10:30 a.m., " a WAPA release stated, "the submarine cable on Feeder 7D that provides electrical service to St. John failed." The cable link to St. Thomas, it said, "is being repaired and electrical service will be restored shortly."
The Education Department dismissed classes at the Julius Sprauve and Guy Benjamin School early due to the island-wide power outage. A release said the schools would be dismissed at 1 p.m. with bus transportation provided.
