March 17, 2002 – The University of the Virgin Islands has announced progress updates on the following forthcoming events:
UVI Carnival Troupe Practices Continue
Practices for UVI's carnival troupe entry for 2002 are continuing on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 4:30 p.m. at the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus. All are invited to come out, join the troupe and learn the steps for what's going to be a spectacular entry. For details call 693-1541 or 693-1200.
Free Environmental Landscaping Workshop Set
The community is invited to the second of two free workshop on environmental landscaping March 21 at the UVI Marine Science Center. From 5:30 to 7 p.m., Dr. Gary Ray will present: "VI Native Plant Horticulture." This session will introduce basic plant propagation techniques, ways to borrow design ideas from the natural landscape, and the pros and cons of maintaining native plants vs. marketed exotics.
A workshop on March 14 featured "An Introduction to VI Native Plant Vegetation Communities," also by Dr. Ray.
The workshops are sponsored by the UVI Cooperative Extension Service in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Urban and Community Forestry Assistance Program. For details or to register contact Toni Thomas at the UVI Cooperative Extension Service, at 693-1084.
Reichhold Center Issues Casting Call
The Reichhold Center for the Arts Caribbean Repertory Company announces a casting call for the upcoming production of "For Better, for Worse," a Caribbean comedy by David Edgecombe. Auditions are slated for April 23 and 24 at the Reichhold Center for the Arts at 7 p.m. The production team is looking for the following: two males ages 40-50; two males in early-to-mid 20s; one girl in late teens; one woman age 40-50; and two girls in early 20s-30s.
The planned show dates are June 7-10, June 14-17, June 21-24; June 28-30; and July 1. For more information call 693-1550.
UVI Theatre in Full Rehearsal for "Knock 'Em Dead"
Spring is almost here and that means it's time for the UVI Theatre's annual spring production. The 2002 offering is a you-solve-it comedy titled "Knock 'Em Dead," written by Tom Oldendick and Will Roberson. The production, already in full rehearsal, will open on April 12 and run on April 13, 14 and 15 in the UVI Little Theatre on the St. Thomas Campus. Tickets go on sale on March 27, at Dockside Bookstore, Nisky Pharmacy, the UVI Humanities Building and the UVI Bookstore.
