CARNIVAL PHOTO CONTEST ANNOUNCED

0

March 19, 2002 – If you have that perfect St. Thomas Carnival photo tucked away in an album or a box, the V.I. Cultural Heritage Institute hopes you'll enter it in their "50 Years of Carnival Photography Competition and Exhibition."
"It could be a portrait. It could be an event. Anything as long as it captures the spirit of Carnival," said Lisanne Turnbull, the organization's program coordinator.
The deadline for entries is April 1, with the $350 prize awarded at a reception on April 10. That event begins at 6 p.m. at the Institute.
Turnbull said up to two photos will be accepted for the competition. The prize photograph joins the Institute's collection. The others will be returned to their owners.
The contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers. If anyone with photographs only wants to place the photographs on exhibit rather than enter the competition, they are also welcome.
The photos must be no smaller than eight by 10 inches and no larger than 16 by 20 inches. They must be matted.
There is no entry fee.
Call 774-9537 or visit the Institute at 5-6 Kongens Gade for more information.
