Editor's note: The university Bulletin Board for April 15 has a date change for auditions, to Tuesday and Wednesday, April 16 and 17.
April 10, 2002 – The Caribbean Repertory Company at the Reichhold Center for the Arts is looking for a few good males and females: they have a role on offer for those who can fill the playbill.
The Repertory Company is casting "For Better or Worse: A Caribbean Comedy," written by the Reichhold's director David Edgecombe, to be performed at the Center in June. It will be produced by the Repertory Company and directed by Edgecombe.
The production team is looking for actors who can portray the following: two males 40-50 years, two males early mid-20s, one female 40-50 years, two "girls" early 20-30s, and one girl late teen.
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. April 23 and 24 at the Reichhold Center. For more information about the auditions call 693-1550.
"For Better or Worse" is Edgecombe's first play ("at least, the first one I admit to," he said via email), and was first presented in 1973 at the Alliouagana Arts Festival in Montserrat. It was produced the next year in Montreal. It is published in "Heaven and Other Plays," a collection of Edgecombe's plays.
"For Better or Worse" is a comedy about the age-old conflict between generations. Young lovers Derek and Sandra plan to live together and raise a family without benefit of marriage vows. They see such vows as hypocritical. But they soon discover that their parents are attached to their traditional ideas and not about to sit back and let the youngsters do as they please.
Hence the casting call for such a wide range of ages.
Performance dates are June 7-10, June 14-17, June 21-24, June 28-30, and July 1.
