TEEN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN VILLAGE STABBING

April 30, 2002 – Homicide detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy late Monday night and charged him with murdering another teen-ager in a fight Saturday in the Carnival Children's Village.
Aliston Francis Jr., a 17-year-old student at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, died Sunday morning after being stabbed in the head and neck, police said. Emergency medical personnel responded at the scene after the fight broke out in a crowded area near the children's rides.
Detectives arrested the 16-year-old and charged him with first-degree murder, according to police records. His name and other information about the case are being withheld because he is a minor, but he could face trial as an adult if a Family Court judge finds probable cause to support the arrest, according to Sgt. Annette Raimer, police information officer.
The killing appeared to be the result of an ongoing dispute between Alliston and the other boy, who was expelled from Eudora Kean earlier this year, Raimer said.
Police have taken steps at the school to try to prevent any retaliation for the killing, she said.
The boy's death was the eighth homicide on St. Thomas this year and the 13th in the territory.
