Jan. 11, 2003 – The University of the Virgin Islands is "calling all Virgin Islands cooks!" It's time to share special dishes with the community at the "Inaugural Kallaloo," this year's Afternoon on the Green.
Afternoon on the Green, UVI’s annual food, family and fun event, features food from around the world. Those who contribute a cooked dish, local or otherwise, will find it being sampled by the many people who attend. Dishes will be entered in the food competition, unless otherwise noted, a release said.
Categories for judging include main dishes/meats/poultry, seafood, soups, side dishes, breads, native drinks, pastries/ sweets and vegetables/casseroles. Volunteer food servers with health cards are also needed.
Afternoon on the Green will be held on Sunday, March 9, on the Herman E. Moore Golf Course on the St. Thomas campus. There will be live entertainment, children’s games and, of course, food.
To contribute a cooked dish, volunteer as a food server or for more information, call the Office of Institutional Advancement at 693-1040.
