47 ARTISTS TAKING PART IN CRUZ BAY EXHIBITION

0

Jan. 18, 2003 – The Artists' Association of St. John is holding its first exhibition of the year over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend at the Battery in Cruz Bay.
Forty-seven artists are represented, in mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, mosaic, jewelry, sculpture, fabric and wood. Each member artist could submit one work each in as many mediums as he or she wished.
Most of the artists taking part are St. John residents, although there are members from St. Thomas and the mainland as well.
The association will present another exhibition — entirely of work by St. John artists — from Feb. 22 to 28 as part of the third annual St. John Arts Festival. That show also will take place at the Battery.
The current show opened Friday evening with a public reception that "was a big hit," in the words of Claire Ochoa of St. John Gallery. "The works are so varied, and that makes for an interesting show," she said. And, she added, "the Battery is a delightful place to hold an art show."
The public is invited to view the artwork from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. All of the pieces are for sale, with proceeds to benefit the association's Youth Program Fund.
The deadline for submitting entry forms for the February show is Feb. 10. To access an online form and to learn more about the organization, visit the Artists' Association of St. John Web site. Forms also are available at The Mail Center in the Marketplace.
