VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR COASTWEEKS CLEANUPS

0

Sept. 11, 2003 – The V.I. Marine Advisory Service of the University of the Virgin Islands is coordinating St. Croix beach cleanups as part of this year's Coastweeks activities in the territory.
Coastweeks begins on Sept. 20 with International Coastal Cleanup Day and continues through Oct. 4. The international project represents "the largest volunteer marine pollution cleanup effort in existence," according to a UVI release.
St. Croix schools, clubs and businesses committed so far to participating in cleanups are Country Day School, CRABBS Dive Club, Dive Experience, Elena Christian Junior High School, St. Croix Education Complex, St. Croix Environmental Association, School of the Good Shepherd, Scubawest and VI PACE Runners. Volunteers from these and other groups will be cleaning several of the island's beaches.
Others wishing to organize cleanups or to volunteer their help with those already planned are asked to call VIMAS agent Marcia Taylor at 692-4046.
