July 7, 2004 – Rev. William Montgomery is the new principal of St. Joseph High School in Frederiksted. Bishop George V. Murry announced the appointment in a press release on July 6.
Montgomery is a priest of the Archdiocese of Washington D. C. and has a doctorate in Latin American history as well as masters degrees in theology and American social and religious history. He has served as an associate pastor, high school teacher, university professor and campus minister in the Washington, D.C. area.
The press released stated, "Father Montgomery is an experienced educator and committed priest who will serve as principal for the 2004-2005 school year. Father Montgomery is known for his teaching ability, having been selected in 2004 and several times before as Teacher of the Year by the students at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington."
Murry said "I am very happy that Father Montgomery, whom I have known for more than ten years and who has a wealth of experience in Catholic education, will be principal for the 2004-2005 school year."
The school had 81 students last year and officials expect about the same number to enroll this year.
The release concluded, "Since 1964, St. Joseph High School has challenged and nurtured students to develop their full intellectual, spiritual, physical, and social potential. Hundreds of alumni have made substantial contributions for over forty years, both here in the Virgin Islands and on the mainland. St. Joseph High School is a coeducational college-preparatory school and is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools."
