July 8, 2004 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:

St. Croix's Mango Melee to be Featured on WTJX 'Topics' Program Tonight
St. Croix's annual Mango Melee and Tropical Fruit Festival – scheduled for noon to 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 11 – will be the topic on the July 8 evening "Topics" program on WTJX-TV. Tom Zimmerman of UVI's Agricultural Experiment Station on the St. Croix campus will be the guest of Marise James. The festival will take place at the St. George Village Botanical Garden. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children. The festival is sponsored by the St. George Village Botanical Garden, the UVI Cooperative Extension Service, the V.I. Agriculture Department, the UVI Agricultural Experiment Station and the V.I. Tourism Department. For more information call 692-2874 or 692-4060.
Relay for Life On-Line in UVI Current Events Pages
A series of photographs highlighting the UVI teams' participation in the recent Relay for Life cancer fund-raiser on St. Thomas is now available on the "Current Events" section of the UVI home page (see link below) or at this direct link.
Bookstore Notices:
–ATH Machines to be Installed at UVI Bookstores
The UVI bookstores have announced that ATH (debit card) machines have been ordered for the stores on the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses. The move is being taken to eliminate the problem of returned checks. Installation is scheduled for July 14. When installation is completed, the bookstores will no longer accept personal checks as a method of payment. The bookstore management and staff regret any inconvenience this may cause.
–Bill Clinton's "My Life" Now Available
The memoir "My Life" by former President Bill Clinton is now available at the St. Thomas campus Bookstore. The price is $35. The book is scheduled to be available in the near future at the bookstore on the St. Croix campus.
Caribbean Food Crops Meeting to Draw 150 Agriculturists to St. John
The 40th annual Caribbean Food Crops Society Meeting will be held on St John from July 19 to 23. Kwame García, director of UVI's Cooperative Extension Service, is the current CFCS president. One hundred and fifty agriculturists representing 22 countries are expected to attend the session. Agricultural issues that affect the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Caribbean region will be on the agenda. A full News Release is available on the UVI web site or at this direct link. Contestants Sought for Miss UVI 2004-2005; Competition Set Oct. 30
UVI is recruiting female students interested in participating in the Miss UVI 2004-2005 competition. Miss UVI serves as a student ambassador for the university and receives several valuable prizes including a scholarship covering tuition, and room and board for two semesters. The deadline to apply is Monday, Aug. 30. The competition is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts.
