July 9, 2004 – The V.I. Resource Conservation and Development Council will conduct a two-day Project Design and Evaluation Short Course the last week of July, first on St. Croix and then on St. Thomas.
The St. Croix offering will be July 26-27 in the conference room of the Innovative Business Center.
The St. Thomas session will be July 29-30 in the conference room of the University of the Virgin Islands Marine Science Center.
The programs will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days for both courses. Registration is $25.
Julie Wright, council coordinator, said the course will be helpful for people developing grant proposals. It will cover "how to design a project so you can measure the results and determine whether you're having an impact," she said.
She said the target audience includes government agencies, not-for-profit organizations, businesses and community groups.
The course will be taught by Lynne Hinkey and Sacheen Tavares, who are trainers with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Coastal Services Center.
Hinkey, a UVI graduate, worked in the Virgin Islands as a marine adviser at the university. In her current job as a program development specialist, she assists with the educational design of Coastal Services Center products and develops training programs for center clients.
Tavares, a coastal training specialist for the center, has extensive experience in formal and informal education and outreach program development.
The deadline to register for the course on either island is July 21. Application forms and more information are available by calling 692-9632, ext. 5.
