Little Boxes Tallying Up St. Croix's Traffic Volume

0

July 16, 2004 – The Public Works Department is carrying out traffic volume counts at various locations on St. Croix, according to a Government House release issued on Friday.
The "counting" is done by small flat boxes that are installed on roadways, Public Works Commissioner Wayne Callwood said. The study of roadway use "includes vehicle counts, classification of vehicles, traffic analyses and other traffic information relative to a specific section of road," he said.
While the counters are being installed, he said, traffic will be detoured or stopped for a few minutes, with flaggers on duty to provide directions to motorists.
When the data collection is completed on St. Croix, the release stated, similar traffic volume counts will be conducted on St. Thomas and St. John.
